Walnut Linen Press

A fellow professional cabinetmaker referred me to the owner of this piece as he didn't feel he had the expertise to tackle this project. The owner had a house full of antiques and wanted a couple of pieces to round out her collection. We'll call her Mrs. C.

Anyway, Mrs. C wasn't what you would call a purist, but she definitely didn't want any plywood in her furniture. The linen press pictured above is a takeoff from a piece she'd seen at Colonial Williamsburg, only my price was thousands of dollars less and didn't take 18 months to complete.

As you may have noticed, the doors are resawn from thick stock and then assembled in bookmatch fashion. Aside from the walnut lumber, the other materials used are glue, solid brass hardware and danish oil finish.

I'm finished here.
