Mr. Rowley's book on wood turning is a real pleasure to read. It is infused with enthusiasm and sage wisdom. By a thorough reading of this book, a novice could actually become quite accomplished at turning (it would require a bit of practice as well!) The photography, by Tony Boase, is clear , concise and well lit. The diagrams, too, are not peripheral, but useful to the task Mr. Rowley is performing.

The book has 11 chapters, starting with "Trees and Wood" and ending with "Safety, Design, Courses.. ". In between are chapters on historical turning, tools, the all-important sharpening chapter, finishing, routing on the lathe and a whole lot more. Along the way there are several projects to make, to help understand the concepts he is teaching. And for the people who just want to look at the pictures and get turning, there is a concise summary at the end of each chapter highlighting the important points.

If you are interested in learning full-scale turning, I would look for this book; I don't think you will be disappointed!!
