Rockler Magnetic Push Stick (#60631) Price:$9.99 Review by Greg Ossi The Rockler Magnetic Push Stick is a helpful woodworking aid. It is probably fair to say that most woodworkers who use push sticks tend to make their own push sticks out of scrap: it is cheap and effective. However, I can recommend the Rockler Magnetic Push Stick for several reasons, not the least of which is that it is magnetic! Imagine, no more diving through piles of wood and mess, looking for that push stick. No more making that scary cut with your hands close to the spinning blade because it would just take too long to find your push stick. Instead, it is clinging to the base of your saw or jointer: ready for action to save your digits from potential misery. Here is what I like about the Rockler Magnetic Push Stick: The magnet in the handle allows it to rest in plain view and within easy reach on those power tools where it would be helpful. The handle is ergonomically designed to fit in your hand so it is very comfortable to use and you can get a good grip on it to control the workpiece. It's a good length and strength to use for ripping thin pieces. It is made from aluminum which the company claims will not damage your blade. It feels firmer and maintains a better grip on the workpiece than those manufactured orange plastic push sticks. Here is what I do not like about this push stick: The width of the stick is only 1/8 inch, not much support for pushing heavier stock. I generally prefer to use a push "shoe" rather than stick as I feel that gives you more control over the workpiece. Conclusion If you're going to buy a push stick, then this is the one to buy. At $ 9.99 from Rockler it is not going to break the bank. It has several advantages in comparison to other similarly designed push sticks on the market. It is very sturdy and could be very useful when ripping thin stock. Although the magnetic handle may sound gimmicky, it really is a useful addition because it keeps the push stick visible, which may save a finger or two one day.
