A Book Review by Joe Jansen Title: Make Your Own Electric Guitar
and Bass The book, "Make Your Own Electric Guitar and Bass", is a comprehensive how-to book for the person interested in constructing an electric guitar. When I say this is a comprehensive book I mean a thorough look at the guitar making process. The author covers both the musical and woodworking aspects of the guitar and gives step by step instructions for building the instrument. The following are some of the topics covered in this book: Construction of the six-string guitar, complete with tools and material needed. The author covers different bridge types, gives you the patterns, and shows how to rout out for the electric components. There are details for the fingerboards and installing the frets. He even covers finishing, complete with sanding, staining, filling, sealing and applying the topcoat. The end of the book also covers some basic guitar playing skills. This book is illustrated with great pictures
and drawings. It is an excellent book for a person who wants
to build a guitar or bass. The history was interesting. This
is not an easy read book but more for the serious wood worker
interested in building an electric or bass guitar. I found the
process and the history of guitar making fascinating and an interesting
read. Editor's Note: Sterling Publishing has graciously donated several books for review which are passed on to our members free of charge in exchange for thoughtful, honest reviews. Thank You! And you can usually find their titles at a discount from Barnes And Noble |
