A book review: By Mike Reese Title: Desks Outstanding Projects
from It starts off with Desk Building Basics, a primer on the components of desks such as Bases, Writing Surfaces, Drawers, Shelves & Pigeon Holes. It covers Sizing of Components, Storage, Materials, Hardware, Construction Techniques & Joinery Options. Following the chapter on basics are seven chapters on the construction of seven different desks, ranging from a simple Lap Desk to a more elaborate Pedestal Desk and everything in between. Each chapter gives a complete description, detailed dimensioned drawings, material lists and step by step narratives on construction. All chapters have lots of good photos & detailed drawings. There are also a lot of sidebars discussing specific techniques on joinery, jigs & processes. I have been looking at desks & desk plans for sometime and although none of the desks in this book fit my exact needs, I found it quite helpful in solidifying a number of questions and I feel it will be a big help in the final design of my ULTIMATE DESK. Mike Reese Editor's Note: Taunton Press has graciously donated several books for review which are passed on to our members free of charge in exchange for thoughtful, honest reviews.
